AI Usage Policy

Last updated: July 23, 2026

Lil Engine uses artificial intelligence to help produce troubleshooting content efficiently. We believe AI is a useful tool, but it is a tool — not a substitute for verified technical knowledge or editorial judgment. This policy explains how we use AI, what we do not let it do, and how we keep our content trustworthy.

How We Use AI

  • Drafting and structuring: AI helps organize manufacturer and community-source information into consistent, readable step-by-step guides.
  • Scaling coverage: AI allows us to produce guides for a wide range of equipment makes, models, and symptoms faster than a single author could.
  • Generating quick answers and checklists: Concise summaries and quick-fix checklists are produced with AI assistance and reviewed for accuracy.
  • Language and clarity: AI helps tighten wording and improve readability without changing the technical meaning.

What AI Does Not Do Here

  • AI does not invent specifications. Torque values, clearances, part numbers, and procedures are grounded in manufacturer service data or verified field experience — AI output that contradicts these sources is corrected or removed.
  • AI does not decide what is published. Every guide is reviewed for technical plausibility, safety, and usefulness before it goes live.
  • AI does not write safety guidance unsupervised. Safety warnings are checked against the hazard profile of the repair being described.
  • AI does not generate fake reviews or fabricate community tips. All community-submitted content comes from real users and is moderated by our team.

Human Oversight

Our editorial process, led by founder Derick Dearmon's 20+ years of engineering and hands-on small-engine experience, applies a systematic diagnostic lens to AI-assisted drafts. Guides that do not meet our Content Quality Policy are revised or withheld. AI accelerates our work; it does not replace the judgment that keeps our content safe and accurate.

Known Limitations

AI can occasionally produce plausible-sounding but technically incorrect details (for example, a wrong spark plug gap or a misidentified carburetor type). We mitigate this by grounding guides in manufacturer data and verified community input, and by responding to correction reports. If you spot a technical error, please report it via the feedback form on that guide or email support@lil-engine.com.

Transparency

We are upfront about the fact that AI assists in producing our guides. We do not present AI output as though it came solely from a human author, and we do not fabricate author credentials. Our authorship and editorial standards are described in our Editorial Policy.
